Ray Volpe and Vastive have unleashed an absolute beast of a track, “GET SMACKED,” a relentless fusion of bass, metal and trap energy.

A member of the EDM.com Class of 2022, Volpe broke out with 2022’s global electronic anthem “Laserbeam,” a track that remains a staple in the bass music world. Vastive, known for his aggressive and unrelenting sound, proves to be the perfect partner-in-crime for this show-stopping collaboration.

The new single marks the first glimpse into Volpe’s forthcoming debut album, FOREVER, VOLPETRON, and sets the tone for what’s shaping up to be a genre-defying odyssey.

Right out of the gate, “GET SMACKED” grips us with razor-sharp guitar riffs and the adrenaline-fueled chant, “Move back, get smacked—are you ready?” before detonating into a gauntlet of face-melting dubstep drops. A perfectly timed pre-drop vocal proves to be a treasured ingredient that makes Volpe and Vastive’s collaboration ever-more enthralling.

The track’s raw power is undeniable. But its versatility truly shines in the second half, where the pair seamlessly shift into a rock-infused breakdown before closing with a trap-inspired finale.

With FOREVER, VOLPETRON on the horizon, “GET SMACKED” is a perfect teaser for what’s to come—another festival anthem destined to dominate the circuit.

“‘GET SMACKED’ really jumpstarts my debut album season into full swing,” Volpe shared in a press release. “Working with Vastive felt very natural; we both have a love for metal music and interesting flows to bring into the heavy bass sector of the dance scene.”

A busted mid-century TV set hums alive, its channels bleeding into a universe only Zeds Dead can tune.

Their long-awaited sophomore album, Return to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness, bridges yesterday’s voices to tomorrow’s beats. Eight years in the making, it’s out now via the influential electronic music duo’s own record label, Deadbeats.

The album’s conceptual framework—a television flickering through time—perfectly suits Zeds Dead’s sampling prowess and lets their obsession with crate-digging evolve into a widescreen narrative. What makes it exceptional isn’t merely its technical brilliance, but how it transforms disparate cultural fragments into something of a sonic Tarantino film with dusty samples, sharp cuts and endless style.

Sampling becomes sorcery in the hands of these restless dubstep pioneers. “Bad Guy” stands tall among the tracklist, interpolating Al Pacino’s iconic lines from Scarface in a menacing electroclash track with vintage breakbeats. Other highlights include “A Million Dreams,” where legendary jazz pianist Duke Ellington’s gravelly musings from a 1960s interview float through liquid drum & bass; and “Angel,” which channels the raw French electro of Justice.

For the diehards, Zeds Dead revisit their roots in “Hold My Hand,” delivering a gut-punch of nostalgia through haunting vocals dripping over bass so thick it could coat lungs. “One of These Mornings” follows suit, threading the soul-stirring voice of R&B icon Patti LaBelle through a stunning dubstep track that thrums with both reverence and grit. These tracks anchor Return to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness, tethering its wilder experiments to the duo’s foundational sound.

The origin of the album’s curious title is a cosmic coincidence, a half-remembered dream Zeds Dead tweeted back in 2017 and recently rediscovered by a fan. According to a press release, “Return” signifies the revival of their early sound while the “Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness” refers to the radio waves and light of the electromagnetic spectrum, a metaphor for the unseen threads binding the duo’s influences to their production.

“In making Return to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness, we really connected with the spirit of what Zeds Dead is. Throwing whatever crossed our minds at the wall and seeing what stuck,” Zeds Dead said in a statement. “One of our biggest inspirations for this album was the idea of not letting anything matter in our creative process except for our own taste. It is very much art for art’s sake, and the product is something we can both fully stand behind.”

The release of Return to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness coincides with the launch of an eponymous North American tour, which will feature “a one-of-a-kind visual component,” per the press release.

You can find the new album on streaming platforms here.

Martin Garrix has announced his first-ever headlining show at Los Angeles State Historic Park, scheduled for June 27th, 2025.

Prior to the official announcement, Garrix sparked curiosity over the weekend by sharing a teaser image of a billboard displaying “Los Angeles 2025,” hinting at a major event in the city. As streaming platforms wage war for market share, one metric is emerging as a demonstrative measure of success: reporting integrity.

Legitary, a data analytics firm that provides AI-powered auditing, recently released its latest ranking of streaming services with regard to the reliability of their play count data. Their investigation, which examined billions of streams across major music platforms in 2023, calculates a “Legitary Anomaly Score,” a metric designed to measure reporting discrepancies.

The ranking not only highlights operational transparency, but also reveals significant shifts in the streaming ecosystem. SoundCloud’s ascension to the top spot is particularly noteworthy, overtaking industry stalwarts like Spotify and Apple Music as the resurgent platform works to strengthen its market standing a decade after near-bankruptcy.

Legitary’s analysis “underscores SoundCloud’s commitment to transparent reporting practices,” according to a press release. Meanwhile, YouTube and TikTok appear near the bottom of the ranking due to purported frequent disparities in their reporting accuracy. Along with iHeartRadio, they round out the bottom three spots in a list of 10.

“This year’s ranking reaffirms that innovation and a commitment to quality can disrupt even the most established players,” said Legitary CEO Nermina Mumic. “Transparent and reliable reporting is the cornerstone of a sustainable future for the music industry.”

You can find Legitary’s full DSP ranking below.

Boys Noize has been tapped as the exclusive opening act for Nine Inch Nails‘ sprawling “Peel It Back World Tour.”

Kicking off in Europe this June before storming North America in August, the tour promises a collision of electronic music and industrial grit—two worlds that Boys Noize and NIN masterminds Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have already proven they can fuse with fiery results.

Their history isn’t new. Last year, Boys Noize reworked Reznor and Ross’ brooding score for Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers film into a stunning remix album. One of its tracks, “Pre Signal [MIXED],” was named by EDM.com in its list of 2024’s best electronic records.

As Nine Inch Nails continue to blur lines between film, rock and electronica, Boys Noize’s distorted beats offer a compelling counterpoint to the band’s visceral sound. For an industry obsessed with cross-genre pollination, their move to bring the DJ and producer on tour is a testament to how shared creative orbits can yield something greater than the sum of their parts.
